LOCATION
Napoleon's Retreat is located on the Southern Mornington Peninsula, in the seaside village of Blairgowrie, just over an hour's drive South from Melbourne's CBD in Victoria. Blairgowrie is near the historic township of Sorrento, which has earned acclaim for its fine limestone buildings, excellent eateries, sidewalk cafes, boutiques, galleries and a calm front beach.
Napoleon's Retreat is hidden amongst native trees, only 200 metres from the Mornington Peninsula National Park and ocean beach, or a 2 minute drive to the gentle front beach at Blairgowrie.
A year round car and passenger ferry service connects Sorrento with Queenscliff on the Bellarine Peninsula, adding an extra dimension to the scenic experience and completes the 'Around the Bay' touring route.
Getting there
Blairgowrie is just over an hour's drive from the Melbourne CBD via the Nepean Highway or the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, or you can take the ferry across the bay from Queenscliff.
If you are coming from the Mornington Peninsula Freeway:
- Proceed to the end of the freeway at Rosebud, and turn right at the roundabout.
- Travel about 2kms to where you can see the Bay and turn left into Pt. Nepean Road.
- Drive through Rosebud, Tootgarook and Rye, and turn left at the intersection just past the Rye Hotel, after the carwash on the corner, into Dundas Street.
- Turn right at the first roundabout, into Melbourne Road.
- Proceed along Melbourne Road for about 5 kilometres, and look out for Canterbury-Jetty Road on the right and a sign welcoming you to Blairgowrie.
- Ridley Street is the 8th street to the left after Canterbury-Jetty Road, and Napoleon's Retreat is 100m down on the left.
